Wilson County Fair Hosts Cupcake Challenge
Remember when a cupcake was just a cupcake? Since the early 1990's, the cupcake has transformed into works of art widely known for vivid colors, mountains of frosting and tasty sensations. Once just a vehicle for delivering a sugary frosting payload to the bloodstream, cupcakes are now a sophisticated, diverse set of desserts in their own right.
The first mention of the cupcake can be traced as far back as 1796, when a recipe notation of "a cake to be baked in small cups" was written in American Cookery by Amelia Simmons. Fast forward to present day and Americans are still enjoying this wonderfully unique creation and the cupcake has transformed the way we look at desserts. With introductions into mainstream media, the cupcake has become a wildly popular dessert for backyard parties to high class weddings and everything in between.
One reason the cupcake has become so popular is that they fit in with the old saying, "You eat with your eyes first." The cupcake can be simple to extravagant and very pleasing to the eye. Another reason cupcakes have gained such popularity is because of their small portions and portability.
Fortunately, unique cupcake decorating techniques are not out of reach for ordinary kitcheneers and weekend bakers. It's easy to create elegant and delicious cupcakes at home without years of training or recipes more complicated than the instructions on a box of cake mix.
So why all the talk about cupcakes? The Wilson County Fair has jumped on the cupcake bandwagon. This year, you can try out your cupcake decorating skills to the test with a brand new contest, Cupcake Challenge. Much like popular television cooking shows, this will be an experience like no other.

Pulling Together At The Wilson County Fair!
The Fair is Coming! August 17-25, 2012 the Wilson County Fair will waive its flags and banners, and wagons will lead the opening parade, “Pulling Together at the Wilson County Fair!” The 500 plus fair volunteers are busy getting ready for the big event. Recently at a “preparing for the big day” meeting, young children marched into the meeting room pulling red wagons full of items that represent some of the events that will be seen at this year’s fair. You could imagine the smell of cotton candy, funnel cakes, candied apples, and corn on the cob. The anticipation of the bright lights, music, entertainment, fireworks, and the carnival rolling into town with all of the rides filled the air with excitement that the fair is coming.
