YEAR OF THE CORN

CORNEY?   WE HOPE SO!

The Wilson County Fair is Celebrating

“YEAR OF THE CORN”

As our 2012 Agricultural Commodity

In the spring of 1778, CORN was the first recorded crop in Middle Tennessee planted by European settlers, (Thomas “Bigfoot” Spencer and John Holliday – “Long” hunters in this unsettled territory.)

Neal’s Paymaster CORN, a revolutionary discovery for farmers, was developed in 1898 by Wilson County farmer, W. H. Neal, of the Tuckers Cross Roads community. It provided the growth of two (2) ears of CORN on a stalk, rather than just one ear. It advanced CORN production to an all new level and improved farm income considerably. You can learn more about this Wilson County history at the Fair!

CORN is everywhere--especially at the Fair!!! Join us for roasted CORN, CORN dogs, popCORN, CORN contests, CORN exhibits and bushels of CORN fun as we all “PULL TOGETHER” at the 2012 Wilson County Fair.

Wilson County Fair ranked 34th in North America PDF Print E-mail

The Wilson County Fair was the 34th most-attended fair in North America, its highest showing on the annual ranking of fair attendance.

The rankings are released each year by http://www.carnivalwarehouse.com

Wilson County’s fair, held in Lebanon each year, had 545,655 attendees, putting it ahead of state fairs in Florida and Colorado. No other Tennessee fairs made the list.

Attendance was up 38 percent of 2010, when severe rains made for thinner crowds.

“The weatherman treated Wilson County Fair visitors and volunteers to nearly perfect weather this year,” Wilson County Fair President Hale Moss said. “We appreciate everyone who helped make 2011 a record-breaking year.”

Wilson County’s 2012 fair, themed “The Year of the Corn,” will be held Aug. 17-25.
