Wilson County Fair

Our very own Ms. TN Senior Wilson County, Carolyn Corlew was seen at the 3rd annual,New Leash on Life, Turkey Trot Thanksgiving Day 5K run. Carolyn finished first in her category. Way to go Carolyn! Presenting Carolyn with her ribbon is Amy Haverstick,Director for New Leash on Life.

For all of you who enjoy gun-slinging, roping, whips and knives of the old west, be sure and go by and see the Rhinestone Ropers in Fiddlers Grove beside the poultry barn.

I am finally here to start another year at the Wilson County Fair. Weather is fine right now, we got a little wet earlier. If you see me, stop and say hello. Hope to see you soon!

OK all my senior friends, It all starts today! Today only, wear a Ford logo hat or bring a Ford keychain and get $2.00 off gate admission price. Don't like all the crowds, Fiddlers Grove is the place for you. Tonight is the sheep dog demonstrations just inside the purple gate near the farm equipment. And boy, I can already smell the great food and I'm not even there yet! There is something for everyone!

Wilson County Fair will open the gates at 5 p.m., Friday, August 17.

You can feel the excitement!  People are hurrying around, flags and bunting being hung, exhibits built, food vendors moving in, rides setting up, new First Aid Station, and volunteers are busy getting ready for the BIG SHOW!

Are you ready?  Do you have your tickets?  So much to see and do in 9 days!  Fun for everyone!

Admission: $7 - Adults; $5 - Children (6-12 years); FREE - Children (5 & under)

Season Tickets can be purchased at local banks, Chamber of Commerce, Fair Office, and Moss' Florist and Garden Center.

Hello fellow senior citizens. Not too long now! Be sure to get your dinner tickets for the free Senior Citizen's Picnic. The picnic will be held on Senior Citizens day, Monday, August 20, 2012.

Gate admission price for Senior Citizens on Senior Citizens Day will be $6.00. (Age 60 years or older) Gates open at 4:00 p.m. Seniors attending the Senior Picnic must enter at the Main Front Entrance and go to the RED Gate.

Serving at 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Entertainment begins at 4:00 p.m. provided by Dan Long & Country Pride.

Seating is available for the first 1000.

Dinner tickets are free, but must be picked up in advance at the following locations:

Hello to all my senior friends. It has been a very busy summer so far. The heat has been oppressive but seems to have settled back into a more normal July. Be sure to drink plenty of liquids and be careful when doing activities outside.

The fair is just one month away. My how time flies. Is it just me or does it seem to go faster the older you get! There are a lot of activities at the fair for the senior folks. One of our most popular is Fiddlers Grove where you can step back in time to a more relaxed period in our history. Enjoy all the restored buildings and crafts from another time. Watch the broom maker hand make straw brooms. Watch the weaver and the blacksmith along with the millers grinding corn. See how molasses is made using horse power. That's one horse power!

Come out and enjoy the activities at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center, 945 Baddour Parkway, Lebanon, TN, this weekend!

Fiddlers Grove Historic Village is alive with HillbilliesVille CountryFest – June 7-10, Noon to Midnight, and Noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday.  Traditional Country Music on 5 Stages, good food and fun.  Don’t forget to stop by the Fiddlers Grove General Store for a coke, moon pies or Sally’s famous fried apple pies. Local handmade baskets, crochet items, painted gourd bird houses, soaps and lotions are now available.

Join in the fun at 2^nd Saturday in Fiddlers Grove.  Free Tours are Saturday, June 9, 4-6 p.m. and Bluegrass Music by Wilder Mountain from 6-9 p.m. at the Fiddlers Grove Picnic Pavilion.  Donations welcome.  BBQ Plates $6.

Wilson County 4-H Jr. Livestock Exposition begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 9.  Come out and support the boys and girls as they prepare their heifer, steer, sheep, or goats for show, compete for prizes and get ready for the State Competitions this summer.  “POP Smart Livestock Barn.”  Free to the public.

Tennessee High School Rodeo will be at the Wilson County Exhibition Center, Friday and Saturday, June 8-9.  7 p.m. $8, Children 8 and under FREE.  There will be over $50,000 in prizes given to winners Saturday evening at the Finals.

Tennessee Championship Truck and Tractor Pull, Saturday, June 9, 7 p.m., $10, Children 11 and under FREE.

2012 Wilson County Fair will open August 17.  The theme for this year is “Pulling Together at the Wilson County Fair!”  The agricultural education focus will be “Year of the Corn.”  It has already been a great year with everyone “pulling together” to make this the very best Fair yet.

Hello, my name is George Wallace. I have been on the Board of Directors of the Wilson County Fair for over 10 years now. In that time I have served in many capacities. The latest of these is this blog. This blog will cover many subjects with the main focus being on us senior citizens. Don't stop reading because you are not a senior citizen, you might enjoy some of this content also.

The Wilson County Fair blogs will be a series of blogs by the Wilson County Staff and Web Committee Members.

The bloggers will be based on the Wilson County Fair website - www.WilsonCountyFair.net but the blogs will automatically update our social media accounts - Facebook and Twitter. And once we get these blogs rollings you will be able to log into the Fair website and make a comment to your favorite blogger!
