Exhibits will be in the Wilson County Veterans Memorial Building known as the Agriculture & Horticulture Building.


General Rules:

  1. Competition open to Wilson County residents, members of Wilson County Gardeners' Guild, and Wilson County Master Gardeners or a member of a Wilson County fce Club.
  2. Exhibits will be entered between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2012.  The 7:00 p.m. entry closing time will be strictly adhered to.
  3. All entries must be identified by exhibitor for class placement.
  4. All Articles are exhibited at owner’s risk, but all reasonable precautions will be taken for protections of items.
  5. No person may enter more than one item per class.
  6. Prizes will be awarded on the decision of the judges.
  7. The National Garden Club Scales of Points (Horticulture) from Handbook of Flower Shows may be used for judging.
  8. The Mary Burton Memorial Award for Overall Excellence presented by the Wilson County Gardeners' Guild will be selected from the Best of Show winners in each division.  The Overall Excellence winner will have their names engraved on a permanent plaque and receive a $25 gift certificate from a local nursery.  The Guild will also be presenting the Talyne Gregg Honorary Award for the "Overall Outstanding Cut Specimen in Horticulture", the Alice Trice Honorary Award for Overall Outstanding Floral Arrangement and the Mary Wharton Honorary Award for Best African Violet. The Wilson County Fair will present the Betty Fletcher Memorial Award for Best Potted Plant.
  9. Premiums will be paid and exhibits must be removed on August 26, 2012.  Exhibitors may pick up their items after noon.

Division I - Design - (Arrangements)

  1. All arrangements must contain plant material that is grown by exhibitor.
  2. Exhibitor is free to treat dried plant material or use contrived flowers and other forms made from recognizable plant materials.
  3. No artificial flowers, fruit, vegetables or foliage is permitted.
  4. Fresh plant material may not be embellished or treated by application of any substance.
  5. Tables and pedestals will be furnished by show committee.
  6. Exhibits that utilize living creatures will not be permitted.
  7. The official American Flag and other national flags or any other accessories are not permitted to be used within any arrangement.

Class 1.  Monochromatic (single color) - plant material

Division II – Horticulture
(Cut specimen and container grown)

Rules:
  1. All entries must have been grown by exhibitor or have been in their possession at least ninety (90) days prior to the show.
  2. Exhibitors may make one entry per class or sub-class.
  3. Only one plant per container is allowed (self-multiplication is permitted), with the exception of Combination Planting.
  4. Only one stem, stalk, branch, etc., is allowed for each cut specimen.
  5. The Fair will supply glassware for each exhibit until supplies are exhausted.
  6. Wedging of clear plastic wrap is allowed - exhibitor to furnish.
  7. Cut specimens may have foliage above water line only.
  8. Arboreal specimens must be no longer than 30” from cut end to tip.  Tips must not be cut or pruned.
  9. New for 2012, ALL potted containers not to exceed 36".  Measurement is from floor to top of the tallest plant.
  10. Individual container grown plants may not exceed 12” in diameter.  If plant extends below pot, exhibitor must furnish an inverted pot for elevation.  Exhibitor to furnish name of entry.
  11. Pots for combination plantings may not exceed 15” in diameter.  If plants extend below pot, exhibitor must furnish an inverted pot for elevation.
  12. Hanging containers (blooming and foliage) may be exhibited, but must have the hanging apparatus removed for judging and display.
  13. All plants/containers exhibited must be clean and free from insects and disease.
  14. The Chairman may subdivide any class, by color, type and/or cultivar.
